Cluckbuckie of the Year, 2003

A genius with food additives, a saint with the children, the master of his own domain, all of these these phrases can be used to describe the greatest of great, the Cluckbuckie of the Year, 2003. 2003 brought us many of things, an 150% increase in the number of restaurants in the Internet Hot Wing Database (IHWDB), extended coverage of the International Federation of Competitive Eating (IFOCE), six new wing recipes, coverage as CNN/fn's site of the day, and a corporate sponsorship with the Fresno Falcon's professional hockey organization. With this in mind, we are proud to announce a dead even tie for Cluckbuckie of the Year, 2003.

Introducing our Co-Cluckbuckies of the Year, 2003:

Mike Vanderploeg, Senior Co-Chair, Greater Waukegan, IL Keepin' it Real Foundation

Mr. Vanderploeg has been instrumental in spreading the love of Cluckbucket.com throughout the greater Chicagoland area. As far and wide as WGN's cable access rights spread, so does Mr. Vanderploeg's knowledge of the wing. With Mr. Vanderploeg around, it's estimated that the wing will replace the polish sausage as the official food of Chicago sometime in late 2004.

Mr. Vanderploeg's acceptance speech:

"I would like to thank the Cluckbucket.com for this great honor which has been bestowed upon me. It has brought great joy to both me and my family to see something which was hatched over wings and pitchers after softball grow into the behemoth that it has become today. I am both humbled by the distinction and excited for the future prospects for growth both nationally and internationally for the Cluckbucket.com. The world is just discovering what great power the smallest piece of chicken can have. I pledge to give even greater effort in spreading the gospel of the wing and its staunchest supporter-Cluckbucket.com. Thank you, good night, drive home safely, and please remember to tip your bartenders and wait staff."

Wade Leaphart, MVP, Salt Lake City 40 and Over White Male Summer Basketball League

Jump shot (check), rebounding skills (check), desire to be the wing advocate of the Western United States (check, most definitely). When it comes to over 40 white male hoops and chicken wings Mr. Leaphart most definitely has his act together. Not only did he hook the Cluckbucket up with our first ever corporate sponsorship, Mr. Leaphart single handedly spread the word of the Cluckbucket all the way from Provo (Utah, not Spain) to Oxnard.

Mr. Leaphart's acceptance speech:

"I'm like Halle Berry at the Oscar podium right now. Where do I start?
Big up's to chickens, Frank's Hot Sauce, Texas Pete, and Happy Hour specials of the world. I'd like to give a shout out to Stuffy's (Columbia, SC) and Wings & Things (Salt Lake City, UT). More importantly, I'd like to thank the Cluckbucket and Chairman Scott Roth for this glimpse of royalty. The Cluckbucket is the benchmark for all aspects of wing knowledge. This moment truly calls for some sipping of Cajun honey sauce.
I'm proud to be an ambassador between minor league hockey and the Cluckbucket. The rest of sports world will surely follow this lead.
I'm also proud to be a role model for student-athletes. The hanging of my bib at Wingbone Yard will provide support & motivation, spark a fire in America, and act as a reminder...Do not be afraid to order the atomic or nuclear wings next time.
We must unite in our efforts to spread love in this time of chaos. A shared small bone twist does wonders for brotherhood as the chicken wing is the answer to all of our problems."
